Fees

What private chiropractic care costs in the UK: the components of a quote, how to compare providers and what to ask before booking.

Chiropractic fees in the UK vary by provider, location and appointment length, so the useful skill is reading a quote rather than memorising one number. The components below are the ones worth comparing when you approach a clinic. A chiropractor in your area can give you exact figures for their own practice.

The first consultation

A first appointment usually runs longer than a follow up because it covers a case history, an examination, an explanation of findings and, where appropriate, a plan. When you ask for a quote, ask what the fee includes: history, examination, report of findings, any advice or exercises given on the day, and whether a written summary is provided. Some clinics separate the examination fee from a report of findings appointment and some combine them.

Subsequent sessions

Session length and fee should be stated per appointment, not only as a block. Ask the typical duration, whether the fee changes with appointment length, and whether the clinic sells packages in advance. A package is not automatically cheaper or worse; it simply shifts risk, so it is fair to ask what happens to unused sessions if care ends early.

Questions to ask about any quote

  • What is the total cost of the first appointment, itemised by component?
  • What is the fee per subsequent session, and how long is each session?
  • Are there charges for reports, letters, or cancelled appointments, and what notice period applies?
  • If private medical insurance is involved, is the provider recognised by that insurer, and what paperwork is issued for a claim?
  • Is there a written plan, and does it state expected session numbers and review points?
  • If progress reviews suggest care should end, is that explained without pressure to continue?

These are ordinary consumer questions, not complaints. A clear answer is itself useful information.

How to compare two providers

Put the quotes side by side on the same basis. A lower per session fee with more sessions forecast is not obviously cheaper than a higher fee with a shorter plan. Ask each provider what a typical course looks like for a presentation like yours, what review points exist, and what would cause them to stop or refer on. Compare the plan, the review points and the total likely cost, not the headline number alone.

Insurance

Many UK private health insurers cover chiropractic care, but cover depends on your policy, your insurer's recognised provider list and any excess or pre authorisation requirement. The practical steps are to check your policy, confirm the provider is recognised, and ask what receipts or invoices you will receive. This page does not state any insurer's terms or any clinic's recognition status.

What this page is

This is a reading guide on how to prepare for a fee conversation and how to compare quotes. It is not a price list, a booking service or a quote from a clinic. For practical preparation before a first appointment, see your first appointment; for what a course of care involves, see treatment sessions; for how to choose a provider, the clinic page explains the approach, and the contact route is where you can put a question about a quote, a claim or a policy.

When you compare a claim about fees, costs or cover, note the date on which it was made and the linked source. Figures without a date are harder to use.
